Q: Diet after Cholecystectomy?

Hi,

I had my Cholecystectomy on Wednesday and it went really well. The doctor said I had a lot of stones, some adhesions, and that my gall bladder was swollen and infected. Glad it's not in me anymore.

After only 3 days I am feeling really good! Some pain and discomfort but not too bad at all.

Thanks for all the answers and support from the doctors and other posters here!

I am wondering what I will be able to eat now that I am without a gall bladder. Prior to my surgery I feel I was already functioning without my gall bladder because it didn't seem like it was working very well any more. The foods that upset me the worst were fried foods.

I never want to return to my old diet because it was very unhealthy. But I would like to be able to eat a burger now and then or maybe a slice of pizza once in a while.

Since I changed my diet back in July I lost about 15 pounds and my cholesterol went down from 225 to 208 so I guess I should be happy about not eating all that junk I used to eat. Just wondering if I will ever have another buffalo wing?

I would like to hear from others who had this surgery and hear your experiences with eating different foods after surgery.

Steve

Most patients do well after cholecystectomy if they follow a prudent and healthy diet. Excessive intake of fatty and fried foods can result in bloating, mild nausea, and loose stools after cholecystectomy. However, an occasional burger or small serving of buffalo wings will probably not cause you much in the way of symptoms.
