Q: Diet after CABG double bypass

Hello,

First let me explain my condition and why I chose to ask for advice before attempting to take this product.

I am a 48 year old male, married and have 3 boys ages, 16, 19, and 20

Last year around the end of September I was admitted to the hospital for what seemed like abdominal discomfort. To make a long story short I had SCAD or severe coronary artery disease and had to have a double bypass surgery CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) and a large section of vein was removed from my left leg for the grafts. Actually right now I feel pretty good other than the fact that I feel I am extremely overweight and need to lose a few pounds. I have never weighed anymore than 160 pounds, but now weigh around 183! My BMI (body mass index) is 28.7 which is considered for me to be overweight.

I forgot to mention that I had just quit smoking prior to going into the hospital a year ago, but have not smoked since then.

I take 5 different medications which are:

Lisinopril 5 mg - ACE inhibitor (once a day)
Metoprolol 25 mg - Beta Blocker (twice a day)
Omeprazole 20mg - for acid reflux (once a day)
Simvastatin 20mg - to control and lower cholesterol (once a day)
Aspirin 325mg - I think to thin my blood? (once a day)

I am wondering, before I fork out a bunch of cash for this Acai Berry Cleanse, if it is safe for me to take considering my medical condition(s) As far as I can tell I have done a little research and found that according to some studies they did on the product that there are no apparent side effects.

Thanks,
Dave

What's the reason that you will be taking the cleanse? Is this for weight loss or a general internal body cleanse? Also, how long has it been since you CABG ? Have you consulted your cardiologist about the cleanse?

to lose weight only. and yes I talked with my cardiologist and he said NO diet or cleansing pills of any kind for any reason. He actually suggested weight watchers. So I guess that is that, LOL

Well, good for you for finding out. Maybe you can do an internal cleanse further down the line. One company that I really like is Blessed Herbs. And they have a hotline number where you can ask questions from a real live consultant. It might be worth looking into a little later. Good luck in your weight loss! Are you going to be exercising, too?

Yeah I bought a nice treadmill on eBay for $40 and I am getting some hand weight barbells. Plus I walk our new puppy daily around the block, lol that's mostly for her sake and not mine though.

Cool!

I found some physical fitness guidelines from the President's Council on Physical Fitness & Sports that you might find helpful. Also, check out this site...great resources, including a fitness tracker and assessments. Good for you! We're rooting for you (pun intended).

I am also thinking about buying a motorized pedal exerciser. I like it cause you can exercise both your arms and legs. Put it on the floor and use it as a bicycle like exercise machine, put it on a table or chest height surface and exercise your arms. I saw one in Dr. Leonards catalog for $160 that my wife orders from frequently, but I'm sure I could find something similar on eBay for a cheaper price.

My wife is 42 but she doesnt have any heart problems (as far as she knows) and she wants to lose a few pounds too, so I figure if she sees me doing something about my weight she might be happy to join in too. She has to work 5 days a week but doesnt want to take any pills or anything that may interfere with her work performance. And she can't afford to get sick because she works as a head cook in our neighborhood nursing home.

Losing weight and exercising together is a good way to spend time as a couple too. My husband and I get together twice a week for 20-30 minutes. Just set some realistic goals (general health, completing a workout), and it's a good bonding experience.
