Hi, I've tested positive for trichomonas and my bf didn't get tested, but he did get his prescription. I had a lot of the initial symptoms so once I finished my medication I felt comfortable in knowing the diagnosis was correct. My bf and I took a break and he had sex with someone else. He told her that I tested positive for it and that she should get tested. How could she test negative for it? I didn't have it until he came into contact with her. Could the parasite be dormant in her and give a negative result? Also can you detect trich with a pap smear or do they need to take discharge and analyze it?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
PAP smear test does not test for STD or infections. To test for infective cause, a vaginal smear/swab test should be done on the vaginal discharge. Few women can also have delayed appearance of symptoms (but the test done should be able to detect infection if she is infected). She should consider getting vaginal swab/smear test to rule out infective cause. If the treatment was taken by you, your partner and even your partner’s partner, chances of re-infection can be ruled out. For further clarification and assistance, discuss with your treating doctor/gynecologist.
Take care.

Thanks I thought that was the only way the infection could be detected. Is there any way she could test negative if the parasite is dormant?
