Hi, My Mother had a surgery done on 24th September 2009 for gallbladder removal. Before the surgery and endoscopy was done to remove one stone lying in the common bile duct. The surgery could not be achieved due to Laproscopy due as the bile tube was in some awkward position so the doctors decided to opt for an open surgery to remove the gall bladder.

My Mother has become so weak, she doesnt get the taste to eat food, whatever she tries to eat she vomits it out. After 2 weeks of surgery now from last 2 days she has started with diarrhea, doctors say its medicinal diarrhea - God knows what exactly it is. But im worried for my mothers health she s not able to eat properly and now this diarrhea problem has begun. Doctors have advised her to take IMPODIUM to stop diarrhea - the tablet works fine till only 6-8 hours but if she does not consume the tablet then the diarrhea starts again.

Can anyone let us know as to - is this normal after surgery? if it is normal then please tell me HOW much time will it take for my Mothers fast recovery. When will she be able to eat food without vomits and when this Diarrhea problem will be cured. Suggestions are most welcome for the fast recovery of my Mother. I cant see her going through this pain anymore. please help us out. Thanks in advance.

The symptoms that you describe are not commonly seen after removal of the gallbladder. As there are several possible causes for the symptoms that you describe, it is probably best to have your mother evaluated by an experienced GI specialist.
