Hi I'm Jen 19 years old. I'm planning to take Diane pills for my acne problem and to regulate my menstrual cycle. I already got my period. Can I start taking the tablets even not on the first day of the cycle. When is the best day to start? And is there serious side effects? Hope that u can help me.

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
You can get started on the birth control pills anytime during your menstrual cycle (not recommended if using for birth control purpose). You might experience breakthrough bleeding. Avoid unprotected sexual contact within first 2-3 weeks of getting started on hormonal contraceptive (as most of the hormonal contraceptives start giving you effective protection after 2-3 weeks). Be regular with birth control use as instructed. Avoid having unprotected sexual contact if you are not ready for pregnancy. Visit your doctor/gynecologist for further clarification and assistance.
