Q: Diagnosing Paranoid Schizophrenia Disorder
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 19th, 2009
Could I possibly be Schizoid (Schizoid Personality Disorder)? I went out with a friend 3 days ago. That night (and the next day) I was totally drained and couldn't get out of bed. I avoid social interaction because I want to be alone and get drained by social functions. I have no interest in sexual relationships (or any relationships, includig family) and am deeply involved in fantasy and intorspection. Most of my day is focused on these. My only interests are computer, video games and reading. If there's a choice in activities, one social and one solitary, I choose the solitary one. The previously mentioned friend is pretty much my only friend. A lot of people who do try to be my friend grow apart from me because I'm "boring". I also don't care much for people and see them as variables. I'm still a young adult, living at home, but want to move out to my own place ASAP. Could I have SPD?

Given the data you provided (lack of interest in social interaction, avoiding social interaction, preferring solitary activities over social ones, father has Clinical Depression, uncle had Paranoid Schizophrenia), it seems possible that you might be experiencing Paranoid Schizophrenia Disorder.
Paranoid Schizophrenia Disorder is a mental personality disorder characterized by a lack of interest in social interaction.
According to the ICD-10, schizoid personality disorder is characterized by at least three of the following criteria:
-Emotional coldness, detachment or reduced affection.
-Limited capacity to express either positive or negative emotions towards others.
-Consistent preference for solitary activities.
-Very few, if any, close friends or relationships, and a lack of desire for such.
-Indifference to either praise or criticism.
-Taking pleasure in few, if any, activities.
-Indifference to social norms and conventions.
-Preoccupation with fantasy and introspection.
-Lack of desire for sexual experiences with another person.
Paranoid Schizophrenia Disorder is not a condition that can be diagnosed over internet. Therefore, you are advised to visit a psychiatrist for a longer period of observation and evaluation. The treatment is likely to be a combination of antipsychotics and psychotherapy performed by the psychiatrist or psychotherapist.
