Q: Diagnosing musclo-skeletal pain
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 19th, 2009
A few days ago I began feeling a burning pain in my left armpit. It only comes on when I reach out past normal extension. If I pick something up off of the table without bending, no burning pain, but the second I bend at the waste and reach with my left hand, I get an immense burning pain. It is totally positional. I can lift my arms above my head as normal, rotate my arms 360 degrees and no pain at all. Please advise.

The symptoms you reported are not enough to give a diagnosis. You might want to visit an orthopedist. He might want to do an x-ray, computer scan or use other imaging techniques. There is a possibility that the exact positioning of the structures in the armpit causes pressure on the nerves that pass in the area. The imaging methods might reveal which these structures are.
