Q: Diagnosing bleeding after intercourse
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 21st, 2009
I am experiencing bleeding during sex. I have exhausted all testing and my doctors are giving me hysteroscopy/ablation as the last option. I had these tests: hormone test, pap, uterine biopsy, vaginal ultrasound, hydrosonogram, STD testing. My cervix also looks fine and no polyps were found on the hydrosonogram. I also tried BCPs. No abnormalties found in the other tests.

Is there any other testing that I can ask for before considering ablation? I thought ablation was more for heavy bleeding. I have bright red bleeding each time I have intercourse. It only happens during sex and goes away afterwards.

The doctors covered all the pathological causes for bleeding after intercourse.
The only other thing that might be causing this condition is trauma to the vaginal walls. The quantity of the lost blood and the color might have been helpful. If the bleeding after intercourse is caused by trauma to vaginal walls due to severe penetration, then you might ask your partner to be gentler or perhaps change the position.
