I was diagnosed with genital herpes earlier this week, and one of the reasons I rushed to the doctor was an odor I noticed. In addition to the itching and irritation, I also noticed that there was an odor coming from my anus (the site of the herpes) hours after taking a shower. Even after the shower the odor was still noticeable.

I'm not sure what to do? Is there a proper way to clean the area? I attempted to ask the doctor this ( from a free clinic) but he seemed oblivious and told me I should wear gloves....like that would help!

Please help.
Could there be an infection...if so, what should I do? I'm already taking anti-virals for the herpes...would antiboitics complicate this?

Is there a proper way to clean this area without spreading the herpes to other parts of my body?
