I read this post and completely disagree with the reply. Since the thread is locked, I have created my own post w/ a reply. Here it is:

I'm diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and have delusions/hallucinations that I'm to tell aren't real. For instance, I've hallucinated people on the street, blinked, and saw that they weren't there. In reality, people don't just disappear.

Also, I'll hear voices of people who dislike me and are going to cut off my toes. No one has come to cut off me toes so, obviously, I have nothing to worry about, except the fact I'm having a hallucination.

The hallucinations were VERY real to me, but it didn't keep me from spotting that they were illogical which led me to seek help.

If you are having hallucinations, you should DEFINITELY talk to YOUR DOCTOR. Not a man on the internet.

That's odd, because I also reported that post: I did not agree with the response and I question whether or not that 'man on the internet' is any kind of doctor.

Thanks for raising this again.

It's important to remember that the doctors that we have now are GP's, not psychologists or psychiatrists. A short description of them is below the answer. I seem to remember admin saying before that they were having trouble finding doctors to hire.
Remember, no matter what you read on this site, if you're concerned, ALWAYS see your doctor!! You are told that when you register, and there are reminders at the bottom of every page. If in doubt, get it checked out!!

I think this site does some excellent work - particularly the ordinary volunteers who try to support, direct where possible and generally advise. And you're right, both of you - if you are genuinely worried about something, it is fine to come on here and get some ideas and support, but for real diagnosis, you must see a real LIVE doctor! No one can accurately diagnose anyone else over the internet.

Also another reason why you shouldn't seek psychological treatments from any doctor who's not a psychologist!! Not to knock gp's, but they're just not equipped, and we shouldn't ask them to be. We have specialists for that.
