After going from doctor to doctor with no sucess in diagnosing my symtoms, I finally took a glucose tolerance test and it showed that I have low blood sugar. My doctor told me that I had high levels of insulin and was insulin resistant. Heres the results of my test:
Fasting: 78
1/2 Hour: 104
1 Hour: 84
2 Hour: 79
3 Hour: 52
4 Hour: 76
5 Hour: 78
I had my glucose level taken two other times when I had blood taken for other tests and it came out to be an 82 and 83 so basically normal.
My symptoms don't seem to go along with my glucose tolerance test. I get symptoms early in the morning, usually after I get to school, no matter what I eat. The rest of the day I seem to be in a constant state of low blood sugar until about 11:30 when I eat lunch. I feel fine after eating, but feel the same symtpoms again near the end of the day, 2 hours later. At night is the worst. Most nights right after dinner, I'll feel the usually low symptoms like vision changes, trouble thinking clearly, irritability and I'll feel more intense neurological changes like anxiety, jitteryness, and general uneasiness.
I'm a little confused about what to do from here. I've been on a high protein and low carb diet for a couple of days and it hasn't shown any sign of improvement. My parents keep suggesting that I eat a lot more complex carbohydrates, but that goes against what I've read here and on other websites.
Any and all diet help and enouragment would be greatly appreciated!
