My hysterectomy is scheduled for April 17.
i'm having the "di vinci robot" assisted
hyst. I've noticed that the nearer my date
is getting, the more nervous I'm becoming.
I'm having this done because of
uncontrollable uterine bleeding and
endometreosis. Any advice on prepping for
surgery would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone

In all my years in health care and most of
the research I have done tends to lead me
to the point of fact that robotic surgery
is far more trusted then regular. It is
done with such pression and sterile
atmosphere, there is so much less to worry
about then with normal in OR surgery. The
hands behind that glass are the hand of a
surgeon that know the technology of the
proceedure to a "T". As far as
endometreosis goes, that would happen more
in a semi sterile area then robotics. You
really should really have no abnormal
bleeding other then the usual after the
surgery unless you are a bleeder like I
am. I do have one word of advice if this
is going to be a vaginal hyst. Just be
very careful after surgery with lifting.
Depending on the suturing the surgeon
uses, you do have the chance of pulling or
tearing the sutures out by lifting
something heavy. Don't over do. Follow the
post operative instrutions they give you.
I know because I broke every exteral
stitch I had be lifting my step daughter
at the age of 2 years old . Within minutes
I was bleeding like a siz. Got yelled at
by my surgeon whom I just loved to death.
He was right. I did not listen. I almost
had to go back to the OR to be re-stiched.
But, he was able to cortorize the area in
the office.
Don't be so anxious. You will do just
fine. You will be in my thoughts. You
don't know how lucky you are to have
robotic surgery.
