Q: Determining pregnancy with tests
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 6th, 2009
I had sex with my boyfriend yesterday and when he pulled out we realized the condom wasn't on anymore. It was in me instead. He mostly came on his leg but he said he started to in the condom a little. When we pulled out the condom there was some sperm in it but I am still worried that a little might have gone in me. I'm just not sure. Should I be worried that I may be pregnant? I had my period about 10 days ago so I won't get my period for two weeks to know if i am pregnant or not

The spermatozoids from the semen have to enter the vagina and then the uterus in order to reach the fallopian tubes where the actual conception occurs. Since you cannot be sure whether your boyfriend released any of the semen in the vagina, there is no way to tell whether you are pregnant or not without examination.

You might want to visit your gynecologist and talk to him about taking birth control pills that are taken after intercourse. He might advise whether it is safe for you to take it at all. This pill should be taken within 24 hours to have its full effect because it tends to stop the conception and the implantation of the egg. Another way to check whether you are pregnant is to wait for your period. please note that if you are under stress for waiting for your period it might be late or you might even miss it this month. Home pregnancy tests are also available, but false positive or false negative tests might occur.

Several weeks after the intercourse, you are advised to visit your gynecologist who would be able to tell you whether you are pregnant or not based on the physical exam, hormonal laboratory tests, and an ultrasound scan.
