Q: Determining MS through proper tests
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 28th, 2009
I recently had an MRI of my Brain which has shown that i have lesions. The doctor i saw said that he couldn't give me a clear Diagnosis as to whether i had had a stroke so he is going to speak to my Consultant about a Lumber Puncture to check for some Protein. He said if that was missing then it was something completely different but it didn't look like a tumour. He also asked if i had been getting blurred vision, sore joints, pins and needles and severe headaches which i have been getting. Does he think i have MS.

Multiple Sclerosis Answer A5588
Current medical status: Severe Headaches, tingling in fingers, sore joints, blurred vision, slurred speach at times
Current medical treatment: Ramopril 10mg, Bendrofluazide 2.5mg verapomil 240mg

It seems to me that the doctor suspects that you might have multiple sclerosis. MS can be manifested with various neurological signs including yours. Brain lesions that the doctor saw on the MRI also support the possibility of having MS. But the presence of symptoms and brain lesions on the MRI are not enough to confirm multiple sclerosis. You have to perform two more tests: lumbar punition and evoked potentials test.

You could consult a neurologist about this.
