Q: Details of a herpes infection
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 14th, 2009
You said these depressed/not fully healed scars are probably caused by herpes or other manageable std's and they are uncommon to hiv. Based on my symptoms does this sound more like herpes? I've never had any hiv-symptoms,my dental health is perfect, and over all I am fine. If I caught hiv it would have been 12 years ago...I assume I'd be very ill by now. I know I will see a doctor soon about these but I am really embarrassed and would just like you to give me some confidence that it is the herpes that have caused this before I go in. Thank you so much, you do such wonderful work.

Based on the additional data, the symptoms you reported are likely to be related to Herpes infection. Herpes virus is a type of virus that stays dormant once it enters the body. When the immune system weakens, the virus might manifest itself (in your case, as small itchy bump-vesicle full with fluid that you managed to recognize only after the fluid was out of the bump and a little ulcer was formed).
