Q: Depression and ADD ?

For most of my life, I've had trouble concentrating on anything for all that long-TV shows, classes, dishwashing, books, etc. After about 40 minutes, I get restless and suddenly find other things more interesting. Its worse at certain times more than others-I might be fine for a month, but then I'd be back to my normal self.
It started affecting my grades in high school, and continued throughout college. I've almost graduated, and do want to go back to school within the next year, so I'd like to get this taken care of before going back to school.
Counselors and therapists over the years have had conflicting opinions-I've never been formally diagnosed with anything, but they have said I am most likely depressed (possibly maniac-depressive) and ADD may be a side effect of it. I also don't always remember spacing out, and epileptic friends of my parents think I might have petit-mal (absence seizures, actual seizures, migraines).
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks!

when someone has a petit mal, or absence siezure, the main effect is that the person just loses focus of everything for a moment. you could be looking directly at someone or something, but have no idea what is happeneing, much like the charachter of annie wilkes in sthephen kings novel, misery. the ADD/depression seems to be a more likely option, and i have dealt with both of these for all my life. i have been on everything from adderall to strattera (which has antidepressant and ADD relief qualities) you may want to consider asking a physicia about your options of meddications, or simply working on something that helps heep you attention ( honestly for me, its SNES games, seriously)
