Q: Depressed and vomiting
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 14th, 2009
My son's girlfriend just left him after 2 years for someone else.He has been devasted as she was the one he thought he would marry. My concern is this happened 4 days ago. We went to the doctor and he started him on an antidepressant. He is still vomitting however which seems to always happen in the morning when he wakes up and when he gets into a crying spell, which seems to come every few hours. We have tried to keephim busy and surrounded with company but he has not eaten a thing in four days. He is taking in some fluid but not much is this normal and how can we stop the vomitting. He is only 19. Worried mother.

I understand that you are worried about your son who has been struggling since his relationship ended. From what you have described it sounds like he is experiencing difficulty adjusting to the end of this relationship. You may want to recommend that he see a therapist to talk about his crying and vomiting. You may also want to urge him to return to the doctor who prescribed him the antidepressants as the dosage needs to be monitored carefully.
