Depot Shot to Pill
Posted: 03-06-08 15:05pm

I started taking the depot shot six months ago. I went through 2 shots. I realized how the shot was affecting me, weight gain and irregular(non-existent and spotting) periods. I went to my local Planned Parenthood and told them I wanted to switch back to the pill which i took about a year back. They started me on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo. This is my first month of using the pill again and I am the point of where I should have my period. I have about 2 inert pills left and have yet to start my period.
My question is: Is this because of the depot shot. Are my periods going to be irregular for a while, or just this month, and will even get my period this month?

It can take 6 months to get the shot fully out of your body. Since your periods were non existant on the shot, this is probably because of that just rolling over still.

I'm not sure how long your periods will be irregular for. It really depends on how fast your body gets rid of the shot and how your body reacts to your new birth control.

Some women on ortho tri cyclen lo, or really any birth control pill, may get a really light period and/or skip it as well because the dose of hormones in this pill is so low. I would wait it out a few packs until your body can fully get over the shot and if you are still concerned, talk to your doctor.
