Has anyone experienced lower center abdomimal pain while on depo? I've had two shots and this pain started about a week ago. It's not too bad in the morning when I get up but by midday it is there constantly though not severe. It comes and goes in severity but nothing unbearable (except for the worry of what's causing it). It really feels like gas and pressure more than anything. I do hear noises in my stomach/intestines and can feel movement (like gas moving through) occasionally and I do pass gas which does cause the pain to subside a bit but not go away completely. I've seen my primary doctor about this and my gyne. Thanks.

I had the same issue. Constant nausea followed for the next 8 months, and a strange rash-like symptom on my nipple area...if you have issues now dont continue- it only gets worse. seriously.

That's true!! It will only get worse.... they will tell you your body should either be use to this shot by now or your body will be use to the shot if you take another injection!! Do not listen to them... I am on my 3rd depo shot and i have been having hot flashes, nausea, not able to sleep good at all, bloated everyday all day, brownish discharges, sweating between my thighs, have no care for sex anymore, and constipated..... and it sucks.... i talked to a nurse where i go and she told me that my body should be use to this shot and i was like no i cant be.... i just got these symptoms a couple weeks after getting my 3rd injection....

They are all side effects of this shot! This shot causes all kinds of horrible stuff to our bodies that doctors cant even tell us what is going on... i will never get this shot ever again! I am done with it. I fault myself for everything i am going through because i did not do any research before i got it. Ladies, please research..... or better yet.... DO NOT GET THIS SHOT!!!

I've have 2 shots and I was supposed to go back for my third shot on June 25, of 2013. But I didn't. And for the past 3 weeks I've been having constant stomach, lower abdomal pain. Constant kidney pains, I already have kidney issues, and it's causing them to hurt extremely bad.
Today, my stomach pains, and lower abdomal and right kidney pains have gotten unbearable, now when I walk I just want to hunch over and cry and I'm spotting, browinsh, reddish discharge. I'm nauseated! I don't know what to do? my fiance and i thought I was pregnant but I don't think that's it. I just don't know what to do!

Did you see your doctor about it? I haven't had any nausea though. Unfortunately, I am about 4 weeks away from my next shot so that means that I have at least 4 weeks to wait for the side effect to wear off. I can live with the pain -- it's not unbearable but it's the worry of not knowing what it is.

I started on the Depo a few days ago, and I started getting abdominal pain myself...Not as severe as it was from my endometriosis (primarily the reason I'm on it). I've heard mixed opinions about the Depo Provera...My main concern is trying to conceive a child after I stop receiving the shot...Any comments ladies?? Thanks Smile

Misunderstood1992 how long was you on the depo before you got off and tried to start conceiving? My fianc wants a baby and I've been on depo since January of this year and I just wonder how long it will be after I stop taking it that I will most likely get pregnant. Or if being on the shot for longer affects the timing it takes to get pregnant.. Thanks!

You could actually be having pms-like symptoms. While Depo often stops your periods, it doesn't always. I've also found that even when I don't have an actual period while I'm on the shot, I can still sometimes experience some sort of pms like cramps during the time when I would have normally had a period. It's not abnormal and I'm surprised that your doctor hasn't already told you this as I've had depo administered in two different states and both places took the time to explain that things like this are normal.
Also, to the person who mentioned a nipple rash, if the rash consisted of darkened areas of skin that either felt normal or felt slightly more rough that your normal skin, that is most likely a hormonal rash. It happens in certain women and can be caused by birth control or other changes in hormones, but it is not harmful. Exfoliation can relieve the "look" of the rash. I developed mine when I was on ortho-tricyclen lo and continue to develop the occasional spot while on Depo, but I have had it looked at and it can almost literally be rubbed off with exfoliation.

Regret having recieved the first shot of Depo
I believe you should google the side effects before you decide to continue. I had my first, and now only shot May 26. Within the first two weeks I gained 10 pounds which was odd because I was on weight watchers and had just lost 10 pounds, plus I was working out. By week three, I was naseated constantly, with food and without. It lasted for almost three weeks and all I could do was take ginger to soothe it. Then I began to have pain in my joints. The first month without my period was okay. I had pms symptoms, but this is the second month and my symptoms are way worse than last month. I have a constant pain in my abdomen that comes and goes. I am bloated all day everyday. I have gained even more weight despite working and eating right, and I have learned that once you stop, it can take almost up to a year for the depo to be completely out of your system. Also, I am very moody and find myself really sad for no reason at all. Not to mention that prior to my first shot, I had no bowel issues. My flow was free especially since i had started to eat way healthier with weight watchers. After the shot I have constipation like no other. Despite taking stool softners, laxitives and even drinking prune juice, it does little to relieve it. Now all that I can do is wait until it is completely out of my system which may take a while. I am believing God for healing but I DO NOT suggest this form of birth control to anyone. Everyone has different side effects and not all women expeirence them, but if you began to notice more and more symptoms, I suggest you find an alternate method of birth control.

Be blessed,
Miesha

Depo being dangerous
yes, go off of it immediately!!! It is not good for you to take at all! NO doctor should be putting anyone on this form of birth control... after my first shot I started to have sharp searing pains in my abdomine. Felt like a knife was stabbing me! I noticed some weight gain but not much.... then the second shot... worse pain.... and bloating and this time 28 pounds in two months piled on and in six months not one pound has left my body and I work out constantly and eat properly and now I am starting not to eat as much just to see if that paired with exercise will work... I have never been this big, not even pregnant with my son!!! I find my doctor lied to me blatantly! and never told me what was going on and, when I confronted him about the issues and said I believed it was the birth control he said there was no way it could be that and dismissed it! I was like seriously! Then I read that the health journal released a study on this shot and says if you experience abdominal pain or gain more then 7 pounds in such a length of time that you should go off of it immediately! My doctor failed to mention this to me on repeated occasions even after asking about it directly! I am now changing my doctor due to gross neglegance!!!! I sorely reccomend giving this a second thought if you even consider taking this!

help, please
I have chronic migraines and take topomax, an anti-epileptic medicine to control but since it affects my liver I can't take any pill form of bc and have it be affective. I'm only 17, and have had a steady boyfriend for two years, he nor I didn't like the idea of nuva ring. The shot was my last hope. I have ibs, irritable bowel syndrome, so when I started the shot a month or so ago I didn't know which one was acting up. But I started having really sharp, really sudden pains just above my legs. These are no cramps. My menstrual cramps have never been bad, I always had killer back pain, not cramps so I know it's not my period. This is a whole new pain. -__- I haven't called my doctor yet, figured I check around and see if anyone can give me any ideas. It'd be greatly appreciated.

Wow ladies so many stories. I have one myself. I've been off the depo now for almost 2 yrs now. and have just had my third cycle which took geez just about a year to come back. So when I first started the depo things were fine and even up till the last time I took the shot I was fine. I went on it for contraception purposes mainly and I mean who
Doesn't mind not having periods anymore for a while. Haha! I'm
Now in the most horrible situation where I find myself wishing so badly that I had never ever taken this stuff at all. And I think women no matter the reason, birth control, acne, disease where by its prescribed should NOT at all take this!! Trust me you'll regret it. Especially if ur someone like me. Now I started taking it @ 15. Young yes! But I was being responsible. Since 2 yrs ago I was still taking it making that 11 yrs of being on it pretty much straight. Had a few where I came off had a cycle or 2 and than went back on. I have like I said now been off it for just about 2 yrs. after a few months of stopping I developed strange painful cramps more with heavier meals in my belly button. Like stabbing pains right behind the navel. Never experienced pain like this b4. At first for the first few times I played it off as poor indigestion. But it's worsened and I have other symptoms that followed after. I started getting really bad back pain in my lower back, cramping in legs, arms, etc. body twitches in my fingers, eyes, lips, eyebrow, around under my left arm and chest. I sometimes get hot flashes, n have also lost quite a lot of weight from being too much in pain to eat or nauseated. I have had digestive problems, bowel problems, excessive gas in my stomach with sulphur burps, I've been at hospitals a few times at the emerg. Just before my first period I was in the hospital because of an attack on my stomach. It was so bad! I was puking, blood too, the pain and cranks in the stomach it was like it was on fire. This lasted a few days of puking etc. It was exhausting. I was dyhydated and put on iv fluids. N sent home to come back for further testing in the morning. I have been seeing a gastro dr but he now has ran all the nessesary tests to look for anything gastro but has found nothing but inflammation in the intestine that keeps reoccurring all the time. Which I am on mezevant religiously probably for the next year. It more. Prednezone wasn't working. Was taken off that right away. With the decreasing one pill each day yada yada. I also have a mild chronze disease and ibs. I have intestinal flare ups almost everyday it seems. They are always feeling swollen. Worse than bloating. This feels like a stomach after a bad flu. That's raw and sensitive with cramps around the stomach and behind the navel. Bad body aches all over, but mostly in my back as the inflammation resides right infront pushing on the back. My periods have gotten like 80% worse than they have ever been, I've been bleeding a lot. The bloating is really bad too. I am only on one other medication and it's for reducing acid in the stomach called ran rabeprazole. Oh and I have Started cymbalta because of the depression etc it has left me with as I deal with these symptoms every day ladies!! Do you know what this feels like?! Sad You don't want to know!!! Trust me. I've even thought of ending my life which I wouldn't but I just don't want to suffer anymore and have drs not know whats going on with me. N I just sit here n deal with it. N go to the hospital if needed. This is no life for anyone. It's ruined mine. I don't have a life outside my house, couch or bed. I do minimal cleaning when I can, can't go out n hang much with friends because I feel to sick. Or just don't have the energy. I miss out in a lot of fun things with friends and family. If I do god for bid have to go out I have to mentally and physically prepare for it before hand. Make sure I have medicines etc. which don't even really with like buscipan for cramps etc. nothing works. But I miss my old life and can't seem
To shake this pain I live with for the life of me. It's literally killing me inside. I've been in bad moods because of pain and feeling sick to where by I get angry with ones around me. This is no way to treat anyone. I just can't help but get mad when pain just doesn't stop. N
You can't relax sometime just for a second. Ugh! I seriously wish that no other women get it this bad but I'm sure thier are others that haven't realized it's this depo shot! Cause I've been told silly things by drs like oh you might be a hypochondriac etc or that I'm over exaggerating my pain. Like who puts themself in a hospital puking blood and is in so much pain. N they don't give you enough for pain out here. 5 ml of pain killers. The weakest kind too. I forget the name right now but I get no help at hospitals either. They just send me home with stuff I've airway been taking and maybe a refferal here n there. Now I'm suposed to be going to see a gyna soon to check my reproductive system
Cause I have thought maybe something there could be wrong. Not only that I have developed a strange hard round lump under the skin beside my navel. Which actually has stabbing like pains around it. It doesn't hurt to touch, or pinch. Feels rock hard and dead. kinds numb. But this is my never ending journey of being passed to dr to dr and still getting no results. I've already thought my life is over and now I have to just wait it out and suffer. If you want a life, children all those fun things in life, please do not take this stuff. I don't even think it matters much on how long. It's poison regardless. N can have many different side effects. I fear that with this pain I suffer with and complications that I just could not bare a child. Which really grinds my gears and saddens me. I phsyically in the condition I'm in would not be safe for me or a baby. I couldn't even look after the baby after Birth very well. I am pretty much bed ridden to my house n bed at times trying to sleep it off. N I do sometimes smoke Mary Jane to help me sleep and relax. It helps enough but still doesn't cure me. Just makes it a bit more tolerable. Please ladies please take this story seriously, cause this is no joke. It's not worth what it's cracked up to be. Use condoms or other none pill or injection methods. Stay away from any kind of injection for that matter flu etc. that's all poison too. Find a better safer alternative than these synthetic birth control methods.

Depo for Endometriosis, nipple pain and discoloration noticed
Sounds like you may have endometriosis. I have severe endometriosis, as well as PCOS in the remaining ovary in my body. I will be 32 in November and had an emergency visit to my PCP in December of 2003 when I was 22, was sent to the ER and was getting prepped for a burst appendix when the PCOS was discovered. Fast Forward almost 10 years: endometriosis was discovered, I've been on pain medication for 10 years in varying doses and various medications; I have had 4 surgeries, two of which were investigative laproscopies in which the first determined the existence of the endometrios and the last which I spent 6 hours on a table for an 'investigative lap' which took so long because the endometriosis had, as with my previous emergency surgery, spread further than the year before when an ultrasound confirmed a teratoma on my ovary in which they could not define the difference between the benign tumor and my ovary and the endometriosis had compelted adhesed my stomach wall lining and fat to my abdominal wall. The 6 hr surgery found edometria on my liver, kidneys, stomach, colon, and all over my abdominal wall and reproductive area. The surgery between the emergency surgery and the first was to remobe my fallopian tube, all on my right side, due to torsion. I have been on Lupron in a medically induced menapause two and a half times, the interruption due to shitty grad school insurance not covering the shots and having to start over that summer through a pharmaceutical sponsored program. Then I started again, stopped before my surgery last summer, the last one which was 6 hours and the endometriosis had folded over a section of my abdominal wall in a taut line from where the ovary was removed to the ovary on my left side. In the ER on New Years Day they found a cyst on my left side now, although my pain predominantly remains on my right side, it has affected the left. Basically we're going for a hysterectomy at some point in the near future. The depo has really really helped and I have been on it for almost a year, off the lupron for just over a year. Its kept me at a "Maintenance" stage and I have seriously decreased the pain meds I was on by 75%.

I have noticed extreme nipple pain at times, as if it is way cold out, and the nipple is erect and turns yellow. Is this a side effect of Depo? I've thought it could be because I wear binding bras as I identify as transmasculine and my PCP has confirmed that there is an artery that runs along where the "sports bra" like binding bra I use runs which can cause nipple pain, but I haven't asked about the discoloration. Thought?
