Q: Depo Provera and pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 1st, 2009
I started Depo Provera on the 7th of April and I started it two days after my period had ended. I took a pregnancy test and was able to get the shot, I was also a virgin. Me and my boyfriend has sex on the 16th and on the 23rd with a condom. On the 24th we did not have one and wanted to have sex. I preformed oral sex on him and after he ejaculated and all the cum was gone we had sex.. he did not ejaculate inside me. If i was to be on my normal cycle i would start this week, i have had really bad cramping and have felt horny which are normally my signs of my period but have not started yet. The last time i started was March 31st. I'm wondering what my chances are of being pregnant and if the depo could have kicked my period back a week or make it stop completely even though this is my first shot.

According to the data you provided, it is highly unlikely that you are pregnant. A more probable cause for missing the period is the Depo Provera.

One of the side effects of Depo Provera might be unexpected bleeding or missing the period. It is due to the change in the hormones. Wait for the next period and if it does not start too, then you might schedule an appointment with your gynecologist.
