So last year tired of taking the pill cause it made me sick and not able to use the patch due to it searing my skin. I decided to get the depo shot. I read online its side effects could cause mood swings. nothing i wasnt used to really I tended to have bad pms mood swings. Anyways, at the doctors office the nurse giving me the shot made me sign a waver and even had to ask permission from the main doc to give me the shot given my history of sever depression.

So not even a week after i got the cursed shot my moods changed. I used to be a very sweet person, but since that shot my moods change rapidly and i have no controll of them, my PMS is ten times worse then it used to be. I never got another depo shot hoping that the effects would wear off. But i was wrong, its been a year. I'm still screwed up.

Are there any cases of depo causing a permanent change in a persons moods?

Depo shot's effectiveness lasts about 3 months so I believe that side effects (including depression and mood swings) from the shot should also last for about 3 months. The side effects may even last longer than 3 months but one year is definitely to long and I believe that your mood changes are no longer due to the shot.

You can consult some mental helath professional about your problem.

Depo-Provera IS known to stay in your system even after you've stopped receiving the shots, because it is such a high dose of hormones each time you get a shot. I've heard tell of some women being unable to conceive up to three years after getting off of Depo, even without prolonged use of the drug.

I'm getting off Depo myself, next month - after a year of use - and I've experienced something very similiar. I've been obnoxiously moody and I've even had some anxiety problems. I'm fairly worried myself that the side effects are going to last after I stop getting the shots.

In any case, I know if I were you, I'd talk to my doctor just to make sure that this is normal.

Depo messed up my life .... I have been with my boyfriend for over 3 years and now were rocky because I've been so moody and snappy.. I was NEVER like this before the shot and now my own family can't even stand me. I can't even stand myself sometimes .... I know for a fact this was because of depo. My mom begged me to get off this terrible BC so I did but I still feel all these side effects and the shot was given to ne in the middle of June 09
