Has anyone ever heard of depo been related to facial pain. I have had this prob for nearly two years now...pain in my cheekbones and around eyes, discomfort in back of head, feeling sick, pain at back of eyes.
After loads of doctors appointments and anti-biotics (they were convinced it was sinus probs) i was referred to an ENT clinic. Had camera up nose and face/brain scan to be told my sinuses wre fine and that i was suffering from 'chronic neuralgia' and given amitriptyline for pain.
I returned to docs after increased doseage not doing anything only to be told that my probs may be caused by the depo injection which i have been on for years ( with a 3 year break inbetween when i had my children) and had no previous probs with.
Iknow depo and headaches can be related but not sure on facial pain...have searched net to no avail...any advice greatly appreciated?

I have never heard of that! Wow! Why do they think it's from the depo? Have they tried taking you off to see if it helps?

Wow, I have the exact same problem - intense pain along the sides of my face, cheekbones, and back of head - and have just made the same connection after seeing an ENT doc and being told my sinuses are normal.

I think this must be a side effect of progestin, even though I'd never heard of anyone else having it until finding your post. I have been on the depo for 2 years and my problems began about a year ago. A month ago I had the Implanon rod inserted and my pain has increased since then.

Now I don't know what to do, since I am not 100% sure of this linkage and I don't want to remove the Implanon unless I KNOW that's the source of my pain.

What did you end up doing? Did you go off the depo and did it help? Very curious and in a weird way relieved to know I'm not the only one with this awful problem!
