I have been without dental insurance for almost 5 years and, therefore, no dental care in that time. Finally insured, I saw a dentist in Nov. 2008 and had x-rays done. Long story short, I was told that I had very little bone support and would need extractions, a root canal for a support tooth for my remaining 4 teeth and wear partial dentures. After many different consultations, I decided to go with full extractions and full immediate dentures.
I was under anesthesia and had nitrous for the extractions. My mouth did NOT get completely numb and I "woke up" before they were done. The surgeon could not get my upper plate in after two tries and noted in my chart that it was because I was gagging too much.
I left without my "immediate dentures" in my mouth. I saw my dentist the next day and he said I was too swollen for him to even try to put them in.
I have tried to get them in my mouth, but they won't stay put- even with adhesive.
My surgery was on Jan. 28 and today is Feb. 7th. I have an appt to have my sutures removed on the 9th but the surgeon's office said they have nothing to do with the fit of the dentures. My dentist believes that by not putting them in immediately that they won't fit now and these cost me $1200.
I have been toothless for 11 days. I will NOT leave the house because of this. I also have not had anything but liquid since 10pm the night before my surgery. You could knock me over with a feather.
Does anyone have any advice for me?
