Q: dental flipper

When I was younger I had to have 2 crowns placed on my two front teeth. The tooth under one of the crowns fractured and came loose and just recently fell out completely. I went to my dentist and he hesitated to cement it back in for me. He told me it would NOT be permenant and there is no way the crown would stay with a fractured tooth. I’m going in a few weeks to get the root extracted and I just got my impressions taken for a dental flipper. Since money is an issue, I don’t have any type of insurance and will not be able to afford a bridge or what i would like more; an implant any time soon in the near future, I’m going to be wearing this flipper for a good few years. I have a lot of concearns about it, and my biggest one is that people will notice that it’s fake. I’m also worried that it’s going to be loose or move when i talk, and how much it will effect my speech considering it is a front tooth. I guess I’m just looking for positive (or negative) expereinces with dental flippers for my own assurance. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a flipper in place of my second on the left tooth while waiting for the implant to heal enough for a crown. I hate it. It is annoying, but better than the alternative - no tooth. No one can tell. I like mine loose because if its too tight it hurts. It stays in place when talking. It only affected my speech for a few days until I got used to it. I've had if for 5 months. I won't let my hubby or kids see me without it, so I eat with mine, but cut up my foods, and eat on the side of my mouth. I can't bite into anything for fear of breaking it though. Near the end of the day, mine gets uncomfortable, so when no one's looking - I take it out! I hope this helps.

Unfortunatly there's no way around it, dental flippers suck. They are the affordable solution for replacing a tooth. Now that being said...it can look pretty realistic to the point where people won't know, but it wasn't meant for eating so its very much a pain. The other option is to take your old crown and bond it to the teeth next to it after the root is removed; this is however only a temporary solution (if you bite on it, its going to pop off probably). I would only do this for patients who just plan on walking around like that for a month or so. Sorry couldn't give good news.
