Q: Denied -- for life?

I just got a denial letter from BlueCross BlueShield of New Mexico. They won't insure me because in the past I've had pre-hypertension that was treated with verapamil. My doctor chose verapamil because it was the most appropriate medication for people with asthma.

Will I be without health insurance for the rest of my life now?

Send a appeal to BCBS of New Mexico.

Pre-hypertension? To me that is a lame excuse...it is like being pre-diabetic... Change life style / eating habits and it can be reversed.

Doubtful that you will be without health insurance for the rest of your life.

Second thought...did they deny coverage only relating to pre-hypertension for 12 months, like a pre-existing clause?

I am unfamiliar with verapamil....

Not yet.
You aren't going to be without health insurance for the rest of your life. You just need to find the right agent to work with, or the right company.

Insurance is Available
I'm an Licensed Life & Health Insurance Agent in Georgia. I assure you there are an Insurance company out there that will approve your policy. You must find the right agent and make sure you tell him over the phone about your condition, so he/she will not waste their time or yours. Some carriers will underwrite the policy, but may put a 1-2yr wavier on the pre-exsisting condition. Meaning they will not cover any problems steeming from that condition. Good luck!!!

I have to agree with the above posters. There are other alternatives. You will not be without some form of coverage. There are other agencies that can help you. But I recommend a discount plan. I am a happy member of one and they accept all conditions. So there is hope. Much success. Hope this helps reassure you.

There's also guaranteed acceptance insurers out there that will take anyone, they usually have pre-existing conditions clause, but in most cases its better to pay for it for 12 months and then start getting your pre-existing conditions paid than to go without insurance for the rest of your life.
