Q: Delivery options

I need help deciding what to do. I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with my first child. My son-to-be has been weighing in ahead of the "average" the entire duration of this pregnancy. I had an ultrasound today, and they estimate him to be 7lbs 8oz.... and supposedly the average is only supposed to be around 6lbs at this point! I don't want to go the c-section route, as I don't want rob myself of the experience of at least one vaginal birth. However, I have scared to death that I could possibly be looking at delivering a 9 lb. (or more!) baby. Would it be completely out of the question to ask my doctor if she'd be willing to induce me at 38 weeks? Will doctors induce if they're dealing with an overly big baby? My next doctor's appt is next week and I'd like to be able to have an intelligent (i.e. educated and informed) conversation with her about this. Any professional advice would be appreciated!

they told me my baby was 7-8 pounds at 36 weeks, and i delivered him at 36 weeks and he was only 5pounds.
it's never good to induce early if there is no need because i was afraid that my baby's lungs or anything else wasnt finished growing. he did have to stay in the hospital for a month and had low white blood cells.
so you want a 40 week large baby, anything else is not acceptable.
i had the epidural and i didnt feel a thing other than a few contractions. they had to pull him out with forcepts, and i was split from limb to limb. they stitched me up for two to three hours.

my first son was 9.023lbs and my second exactly 8lbs. the first delivery sucked but that was mainly coz of the circumstances and the second i turned to my midwife after and said "but i cant have had a baby, it didnt hurt!" and i never tore with either, i had a slight graze with them both but could barely feel it!
