Q: Delaying menstrual cycle

I will be leaving for vacation on January 24, 2009, destination - Playa del Carmen, Mexico. I have been happily married for 22 years, and have grown children. I had my tubes ties several years ago, so we would have no worry about pregnancies. Unfortunately, my period is due to start the day we leave on vacation. I got a prescription for Lo-Ovral and am wondering when I should start taking the pills. Has anyone ever done this before? Thank you for any insight.
