Q: delayed reaction

Stan or someone mentioned this phenomenon. A delayed reaction to the effects of too much sugar. I will crave sugar, eat a lot of it and think I got away with it. Then sometimes not until the next day will I suffer and suffer greatly. I can't find the explanation Stan (I think) left. I always understood that my pancreas immediately would overreact to break down the sugar, plummeting my levels. The adrenal glands then panicked sending out enough adrenalin to cause my liver to secrete the sugar necessary to keep me coherent. What would cause the delay? I have been suffering miserably these past weeks. I just cannot get a handle on my sugar! I either find myself eating too much, too quickly or not enough. I am calling an endocrinologist on Monday with a referral. I have been diagnosed. During the 3rd hour of my GTT my levels dropped to 35.

That's pretty dang low there. I don't know exactly why it happens, I just have theories on it. To begin, whatever you eat essentially will have an effect for about 3-7 days after you eat it. Takes about 5 days for something to totally leave your system in the sense that nothing remains of it. As for the delayed reaction, I think it's simply a case of the pancreas being normal (like when I stick to my diet) and then if you slip it puts it ever so slightly back into that mode again (if you've been good for long enough) so that you see some minor symptoms creeping in. For someone that's not doing so well, it just sets it off again.
