Q: Delayed period
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 8th, 2008
Before, I usually have my menstration during the last week of the month. But my period for the month of April is delayed. It's already May 8 and it hasn't started yet. I am not definitely pregnant for I haven't engage yet in any sexual intercourse. But a month ago, ( April) I have started taking Multivitamins daily. What could be the reason on why my menstration is delayed? Does the multivitamins that I am taking has something to do with it? Or if not, what could be the other possible reasons?

Menstruation Answer A4085
If pregnancy is excluded, a period delay can be due to a hormonal disturbance in the axis hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries. Such a disturbance can cause a lack of ovulation and without ovulation the period is usually delayed. Hormonal disturbances can be due to presence of a hormone - producing ovarian cyst. Excessive physical or psychic stress can also cause a menstrual delay. It doesn’t seem likely that multivitamin supplements can cause a delay in the period .
