Q: defibulators pace maker

Can someone please answer this, when a person has a defibulator or pace maker in their body and dies. The funeral home will take it out and (so they say) return it to the manufacture. My question is, does the manufacture pay the funeral home for this equipment? If so, why doesn't the family get the money rather then the funeral home? Does the manufacture reuse these devises, and resell them as new?

hmm interesting topic. I just received my defibulator 2 years ago. The doctors never mentioned anything about this. I will have to ask Medtronic (the makers of my model) and see what they say.

Yes, they do implant a second hand pacemaker to some patients. I was told by my cardiologist in 1994.
