Q: DDD of the neck

I was just diagnosed with DDD of the c4 and c5 disk...i also have numbness and weakness in my rm and my thumb and forefinger are numb...i see a specialist Wed. my family Dr. told me not to life over 10 lbs. and to get plenty of rest...what does the lifting do? Why is it i can hurt so bad for a week or so and then go a few days with ahrdly no pain...when i hurt nothing helps the pain excdpt to take a muscle relaxant and just go to sleep so i don't know i hurt. thanks for any info

I imagine that your questions will be answered by the specialist. Are you seeing an orthopedic surgeon? Or a chiropractor? Or who?

Your doctor has asked that you avoid lifting objects to eliminate the possibility of further injury. Until you have a treatment plan, it's better to be safe than sorry.
