Hi, I had sexual intercourse with my boyfriend at day 20 of my cycle. The condom broke and my boyfriend ejaculated some (not all) inside of me. I took the pills approximately 11 hours after the intercourse on that same day. I'm pretty sure that my ovulation day has passed(around day 14 or 15). So my question is, how effective is it in preventing pregnancy when Postinor 2 is ingested AFTER ovulation? Because I read articles that people usually take Postinor 2 before ovulation. And would it affect and cause any delay in my coming menstrual period? Thanks!

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
Emergency contraception works when taken within 72 hours of unprotected event. Do not worry about its effect in preventing pregnancy (as you took in within 72 hours). Since it contains high doses of hormones in it, it can affect the period cycle and bleeding pattern to some extent. Wait for your periods to start. Do not believe in myths.
If still in doubt, discuss about this with the doctor who prescribed the emergency contraception to you.
