DATING A BI POLAR MALE

Ive been seeing this great guy who is bi polar, he is on medication and has been for quite some time. In july he got out of a 5year relationship with a very horrible person. I really like him but he states that he is confused and scared and weve been playing the friends deal for a few weeks now. I understand that he has bi polar, ive been educating myself on the topic. I want to know if he will ever consider being in a relationship with me? I have done the pros and cons to the ordeal but i really like him and I feel that this can really work out. What can I do? How can I assure him that I am not like his ex, Im scared as well
