My girlfriend tells me she found very dark, almost black blood in her pad and that at first there were lumps of something.
Her period was 2 days late.
She has also been tasting blood in her mouth and had a blood nose which might mean it could be something else completly...

What is causing it?

Ok, her period was 2 days late and went for three days while normaly it goes for five days. Her theory is that her period started but the uhh, blood didn't come out straight away for some reason and clotted inside of her. This would explain the colour and lumps. After a few days it eventually came out and her period ended normaly.

She's also on the Oral COntraceptive Pill (Probably should have mentioned that)
