My husband recently had surgery on his
carotid artery. After surgery his voice
was very raspy and just above a whisper.
The dr said this would pass in a few days.
It's been two weeks now. A specialist
he saw today said his voice could come
back in 2 months, or it might be 10
months, but they do not consider surgery
to repair the vocal chords until 1 year
after surgery. Has anyone else ever
heard of this?

I had surgery a year and a half ago to
have my tonsils removed and one of the
things they tell you is that because of
the breathing tube your vocal cords can be
temporarily or even permanently damaged.

Vocal Chords Posted: 12-18-04 15:02pm
I had a nasty bacterial infection in my
lingual tonsils that took a couple of
months to diagnose and cure. I'm left
with a raspy , sore throat. After all of
the tests, the ent says it's because the
vocal cords were damaged and inflamed and
it can take up to a year for them to be
back to normal.
