I work in an abortion clinic that offers medical and surgical pregnancy termination procedures. As far as I know, medical abortions are carried out in only one of two ways--you either swallow the medication that will induce the miscarriage or you take one pill and then insert cytotec into the vagina afterwards. You can only do this between about 5.5 - 7.5 weeks of pregnancy.
If you go to a clinic rather than trying to do it all alone at home, you'll typically have an ultrasound to make sure you're within the right number of weeks to know what your chances are of it working the way it should, and you will have access to medical professionals for follow-up, any problems you have during or afterwards.
At the clinic I work in, the patients are given the Mifiprex pill (that stops the pregnancy from continuing to grow by blocking the pregnancy hormone) then are sent home with the Mifepristone tablets (cytotec) that have to be inserted into the vagina about 24-48 hours later to open/dilate the cervix and allow the body to release the pregnancy and uterine tissue.
Have no idea what the dosages are...and this is the 'evidence based' method since the cytotec is inserted vaginally, but in the other method where you swallow the cytotec, think about it--it is swallowed and absorbed mostly by stomach acid...
Keep in mind, too, that there is a slight possibility that you will have to have a surgical procedure if you do not pass all of the tissue at home.
Wish you the best whatever you decide.
