I've had a cyst just inside my ear for a couple years now. My primary doctor said it did not need to be removed so I did nothing. The past couple days I've been having a lot of pain in my ear. My cyst had grown. Went to my doctor and he gave me a 5 day antibiotic suspecting tmj. Now my cyst has popped. The majority of the pain has subsided. Do I need to go back to the doctor? I have two days of the medicine left?

Hi,
Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. The cyst around the temporomandibular is quite a rare entity.

The treatment consists of surgical excision and antibiotics are required if there’s a secondary infection of the cyst.

You should consult your doctor even if it has popped. You might require the surgical removal of the wall of the cyst to prevent its recurrence.

You should also continue taking the antibiotics. I sincerely hope this helps. Take care.
