I got an EMG today and was diagnosed w/ CTS. The doctor stated that I needed surgery. I read up on the outcome of CTS surgery and it looks grim. I'm seeing my PCP tomorrow to get his opinion on the situation and I made an appt. w/ my chiropractor. I have a 1yr. old and a 3 1/2 yr. old and giving my right hand a rest is impossible. I have numbess is my 1st three fingers and shooting pain up my wrist. I can't open up baby food jars b/c the strength in my hand has weakened. Has anyone sought an alternative to surgery and did it work?

Hi cbrokenshire,

I can empathize with you...it's very difficult to experience so much pain AND take care of little ones. I commend you for looking into alternative treatments for CTS. Some treatments you might consider include:

acupuncture
magnet therapy (http://nccam.nih.gov/health/magnet/)
osteopathic treatment

Consider also that surgeons benefit each time they perform surgery. I also found some clinical trials in which you might participate...outcomes are varied!
