What is Crohn's disease?
Crohn's disease is a chronic disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive system, also called the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is one of a group of diseases called inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The innermost layer of mucosal inflammation, mostly presented as sores called ulcers, can cause pain, diarrhea and blood in the stool. Although it can involve any area of the GI tract from the mouth to the anus, it most commonly affects the distal part of the small intestine called the "ileum" and/or the colon.
