I was just diagnosed with CRION (Chronic Recurrent Inflammatory Optic Neuritis) and now something is starting to make sense. The MS doctor that I saw has done a lot of research on vitamins and she wants me to start taking Vit. D supplements. She explained that here in Vermont she sees more ON patients in the end of winter, when natural stores of Vit. D have been used up. Also, after childbirth your Vit. D levels will probably drop.
So....it's making sense to me now that my first episode of ON was in January (and during a stressful time which can also help being on the ON). My second episode was in March -6 months post partum- and my third episode came on just the end of this last March as well. It is a relief to finally have some of these "dots" connected. I am hoping that the extra Vit. D will keep the ON at bay. Hope this helps!
