I'm so glad to have found this forum. I've looked all over the web regarding joint noises -right in the tmj area I have what sounds like grepitus - gravelly - or popping, every time I close, but ONLY when I close. Everything on the web mentions popping on open with a reciprocal (closing) click, but mine is just on opening? Any comments? Is there anything besides tmj that causes this sound - if I put my finger in my ear, this sound can also be sound and felt through the ear canal - very pronounced! Also -as far as deviation, my jaw deviates to the unaffected side when opening, then goes back to the middle on full opening, then deviates again to the affected side when closing. I really appreciate your comments - I'm going to see a chiro in June when I'm out of school - I'm a teacher - thanks!

very often you will only hear something on opening or closing. you probably just moving tissue around. going to the doctor will help immensly--make sure you make a list of symptoms so that he can help you the best that he can. perhaps you should go earlier----the sooner the better
