It's normal?
I'm still only 19, but ever since I started having my period, I get cramps a week before I start, and a week after- but my periods are also the full 7 days long.
And not normal little cramps, but like I want to crawl in a hole and die cramps.
It's been the same way since I've been on birth control so thats pretty much normal.
I guess I'm not much help. lol

You girls could also have a vaginal infection from unprotected sex. With this you get the light periods and cramping (STD's have same signs. You need to see your doctor bofore the infection cause damage and to get tested to make sure you don't have a STD.

I am so confused right now...ok I got my tubes cut, tied an burned (or so I was told all 3) during a c section 2yrs ago. My periods have been clockwork (every 28 days) since then except skipped 1 month and was a day early the next. Anyway this past period was 3 days late and when it started I had the worst cramp on my lower right side in one spot for about a day and cramps all over the next. Then the bleeding and cramping stopped. My fiance and I did the "do" that night. The next day I started cramping lightly and spotting, and now today I only see blood when I wipe and still cramping lightly. Im just wondering why? Any suggestions?

help
Hey, I'm having some of the same problems. My period is always 6 days long, heavy for 3 days and light for 3 days. This last period which ended a week ago was heavy for one day (brownish color) light the next day, then gone for a complete day. Completely abnormal for me. I thought is was gone, went to work with just a liner (I'm a tampon person), but while at work on the 4th day at night it came back. It was very light and brown for the next 2 days. Now I have not stopped having cramps since, and I'm not supposed to ovulate for another week.......

Sometimes the drug is too strong for our system. If it is, the drug will cause you to seem like you're having pregnancy symptoms. You'll get all the symptoms that you could think about. But the only way to know for sure this is the case is to see your gynecologist who will do a ultrasound and see whats going on in there. And if this is the case with you, the drug takes nine mths to work out of your system.

Cramps After Period

Unlike most women, abdominal cramps after period is a debilitating condition experienced by many women, which can be related to various underlying gynecological problems. To know more about causes and remedies for cramps after period, read this article.

Menstrual cramps or dysmenorrhea are usually felt in the lower or middle abdomen, which can even radiate to the hips, thighs and back. Commonly described as a "colicky" type of pain due to sudden rise and fall of pain, the severity of cramps varies widely from woman to woman and even between the same woman's periods. Menstrual cramps can be primary or secondary which normally begin a day or so before menstruation. Primary dysmenorrhea is common in women whose first period was early in life whereas, secondary dysmenorrhea is diagnosed in women having other health ailments like endometriosis, fibroid tumors, pelvic adhesions, and ovarian cysts. Cramps after periods is also experienced in women who use intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control.

How Menstrual Cramps Happen?A substance called prostaglandins is the most prominent cause for menstrual cramps in women. It is produced by the body and is found in the uterine lining. When the lining starts to shed with menstruation, these substances or hormones are released by the body. They cause the uterus to contract forcefully, which causes menstrual cramps. Prostaglandins also cause vasodilation of the circulatory system, i.e., the arteries and veins expand. This results in pelvic congestion (blood pooling in the pelvis) and further leads to discomfort and heaviness. It can even drop the woman's blood pressure and cause contraction and spasm of the smooth muscle of the gastro-intestinal tract, which causes nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, lightheadedness along with menstrual cramps. Heavy flow or clots during menstruation cause stretching of the small opening of the cervix which leads to mild or sometimes intense abdominal pain. More on menstrual period symptoms.

Menstrual Cramps After Period Ends Quite often, women do experience abdominal cramps after menstrual period, closer to ovulation. To understand why this happens, let us divide the woman's cycle in to three phases:

Phase I: During this phase, the uterus sheds its endometrial lining and a surge of estrogen serves to thicken the mucus to prepare the body for ovulation.

Phase II: This is the woman's fertile time period where she may experience ovulation pain and cramping which can last two to three days. Post menstrual cramping usually occur during this phase.

Phase III: During this phase a surge of progesterone inhibits a subsequent ovulation and serves to maintain the inner lining of the uterus with a rich blood supply.

Cramps after period is over can be due to following reasons:

A congestion of mucus in the fallopian tubes may cause swelling and pain which occur a few days before the ovulation, as mucus is excreted before ovulation. Another cause for abdominal cramp after period can be a pulsing of the fallopian tubes at ovulation. This pulsing motion enables the ovum to move through the tubes to the uterus. Another cause for the condition can be the small amount of blood released at ovulation, which results in pain and cramping as the abdominal lining is sensitive to internal bleeding. This occurs when the ovarian follicle gets ruptured while releasing an egg, which also causes the tearing of a small blood vessel. Abdominal cramps after period is also considered to be a sign of implantation, which occurs very early in pregnancy. Believed to be a normal sign of pregnancy, it is the body's way to prepare itself for the baby.

How to Treat Cramps After Period?Although abdominal cramps after period are unavoidable, there are different ways to subside the uneasiness and discomfort. Applying a heating pad and a light circular massage with your fingertips around your lower abdomen will help relieving the pain. Taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine, such as ibuprofen a day before your period starts till the first few days of your period can reduce the possibilities of having menstrual cramps and pain. Having vitamin B6, calcium, and magnesium supplements, proves to be beneficiary in alleviating pain and discomfort due the menstrual cramps. Drinking warm beverages, eating light but frequent meals and following a diet rich in complex carbohydrates like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, but low in salt, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine are some effective home remedies for cramps after period. More on how to relieve menstrual cramps.

Cramping
I had a regular 6 day period but have had cramping for 3 days afterwards??? No idea what that's about. But I do know that if you are getting major cramping or it reallly hurts around your ovaries a week later they are assists. Every woman gets assists on the ovaries every month but they pass with your period, I was told that if it's hurting that much it the assists bursting (which is not a big problem) I also have a mild case of endometriosis which is a female health disorder that occurs when cells from the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other areas of the body. I also have a slightly retroverted uterus. So hope that helps some of you, maybe ask your ob/gyn to check?

sometimes women get cramps randomly your NOT pregnant if you had a normal period it is either just a random cramp from your body doing some adjusting or STD you would be surprised how many women become infertile because they could not believe they had an STD to go untreated in women is the best way to become sterile! So if the cramps are that bad I would call your local health dept and have that checked first! good luck!

Can't believe how silly half of you are not wanting a baby et not using contraception and accepting tht pulling out is ok!?
A man does have pre cum which you can still get pregnant on! Think before you do it!!!!

Anyway I have same issue except I'm using condoms and have just finished my period after having 2 days of bleed, I came off the pill two weeks ago... May it just be my cycle getting back to normal?

Hope this helps!!!
I know!! These women, or girls in some cases, are letting their boyfriends pull out and accepting that as enough protection. They are exposing themselves to horrible diseases and possible pregnancy. Some of these girls are too young to accept the consequences of aids, herpes, and hpv: all incurable diseases!!!
I get so frustrated when women don't know their own body. You don't have an "assist" on your ovaries, it's called a cyst. If your are trying to get pregnant, why would you use the morning after pill.
Seriously, the fear of herpes and aids is huge. But, HPV is the most common std on the planet. Men never have symptoms of having high-risk hpv, nothing. They will never know they have it, and you won't know they do either. Then one day when that relationship is years over, you will get a call about an abnormal pap spear (if you are even smart enough to get a yearly pap smear) and then you will know that you are always at risk for cervical cancer, anal cancer, vulvar cancer, oral cancer...
Is it worth it?
By the way, I have been having break through bleeding between periods and cramps a couple days after my period ends. My doctor did an ultrasound which came back as normal except for a small fibroid on my uterus. (Very common in child-bearing years) My blood tests for pregnancy, testosterone levels, and thyroid all came back fine.
In case you guys wanted to know: he was testing for endometriosis, fibroids or cysts, pregnancy, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Low Thyroid Levels which can cause abnormal periods, and hormonal fluctuations which can always mess up your cycle...

My tests have not told me yet what it is (or was if it doesn't come back) but maybe it will give you guys some ideas. Smile Be Safe, ya'll!!!

GREAT post!! Std's make women infertile!! I was diagnosed with trichomonas and left untreated I had no signs except cramps but i brushed it off then brought on pelvic inflammitory disease I had a 2 year old daughter and a 1 year old son and was in a "commited" relationship (so i thought) by the time i found out I was sterile! NO MORE CHILDREN!!! all over a "minor" std it wasn't even a brand name one!!! I went for 19 yrs with my new husband (yes i dumped the frog who left me sterile) and after a a million tries and years and years of doctors telling me it won't happen I finally had 1 more child he is a miracle the doctors were shocked even... I consider myself lucky I have children I got that disease at 18 yrs old.. some women get it go untreated and don't have any children and probably never will! So please get off the internet and call your doctor if your body is doing something different and you feel something is wrong don't wait CALL THE DOCTOR! I know most of the posts are hoping to get some validation that they are pregnant but trust me if the test says negative and you have or had a recent period 95% chance the test is right, there are RARE cases where some women still have period LIKE BLEEDS during early pregnancy but that is soooooo rare! I wouldn't count on it happening to you!
