Q: Cramp in left side
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 7th, 2009
I was 7 days over due on 1st november i took a pregnancy test that was postive and took another the following day, which worked out to be 5 weeks pregnant. from the monday i have a faint cramp in my left side it wasnt as strong as a period pain more stitch like, on wednesday i had some light bleeding which has continued along with the stitch like pain, my doctor advise me to take another test which on wednesday was positive and another before my appointment on the thursday which was negative, however the doctor said these test where very acurate and could not work out why i had a negative test as the hormones would still be in my body for approx 4 weeks if a miscarrige had taken place. the bleeding has stayed the same still light and not like my normal period which the first few days would normally be very heavy. however the stitch like pain has been very faint and not as often today i have been advised to take another test next week but looking for advice to prepare myself.

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

Yes, the doctor is right. The test should remain positive for a month after miscarriage too. Since you have a stitch like pain and slight bleeding, you should consult a gynecologist to rule out ectopic. A trans vaginal ultrasound will be needed for confirmation.

It is difficult to comment beyond this. Please consult your gynecologist.
