Q: could this be MS

Hello. I am 31 years old, female. About 6-7 weeks ago, I experienced a horrible headache for about 6 days. I eventually had to go to the doctor for treatment. He sent me for an MRI to R/O pathology. The MRI showed bilateral frontal lobe white lesions on flair images in the frontal lobe (one on the right side and one on the left side). The report stated this could be consistent with migraine headaches or possible ischemic white matter disease.

However, I am concerned this may be an early sign of MS. I have had bouts of extreme fatigue (where I have to take naps to function or I will fall asleep driving or sitting up), periods of difficulty concentrating and memory loss (very mild)--for example, I forgot my child's cupcakes and goody bags for his birthday party even though they were on the kitchen counter right in front of me. I have forgotten the kids snacks at schools, things like that. I have a slight tremor in Right hand that comes and goes, and my hands and feet tend to fall asleep very easily. I also have horrible constipation and bilateral hyperreflexes.

Just wondering if I am being overreactive, or if there is a reason for concern. Thanks!

Was it your physician or a neurologist who requested the MRI?

Have you had or plan on having additional tests done?

My GP ordered the MRI. I had an EEG that was negative. I went to the neurologist, and he said we would just have to have a follow up MRI in 6 months, but I was just wanting others' opinions. I am worried because I just have this gut feeling it could be MS.

It is the norm for your neuro to order another MRI in 6 months. During that time you need to keep a journal of how you feel like when things are not going quite right and how long it lasts and if it last longer than a day or so you may want to visit your neuro to have it documented in your file.

At the beginning of my MS adventure I had an MRI every 6 months to see if I had any additional lesions appear as well as to document my overall health, trends, etc.

Lesions can appear on the brain and / or on the spine. Some people with MS have clinical findings yet no lesions. It's a tricky creature.

If it turns out that you do have MS, it is managable and there is an awesome network of support for MSers and their Caregivers.

Best Wishes,

~Zig
