Here is what is going on.( i have serve muscle pain and spams jerking like and you can see it legs arms you name it, Joint pain, Bad vision (blurry), I fall aot when my legs go someting like numb for up too a min. or so, Really bad headaches, Always in alot of pain, Sometimes i can't even get out of bed because my legs hurt so bad, I can't lift my arm's above my head because i get dizzy everytime and feel like i am going to pass out, My husband says my legs and arm jerk in my sleep and says sometime's my head jerks or bob's but not to much just a little bit. I will not let my Dr. do a brain MRI because it cost to much. Is there blood work that can be done? If there is what is it? Could this even be MS? And is there any thing i am missing that could be going on that is a sign of MS? Or just someting diffrent? This has been going on now for 2yrs and it just keeps getting wrose. I have had so much blood work in the pass 2yrs and the only thing they can find is a magnessuim problem the Dr. put me on 400mg of it a day. It has done nothing to help me and they say the levels are good now. Everyone i talk too say's it sound's like MS? So i just keep putting it off! Now i am a bit worried and confused! Help! if any one Knows anything! Or may be able to lead me in the right place! Thanks! christyw32

Multiple sclerosis can be manifested with various neurological symptoms and signs including the symptoms like yours (muscle pains, headache, blurry vision, numbness etc.). But MS can't be diagnosed neither by the symptoms nor with any blood tests. Beside symptoms' evaluation and neurological examination, multiple sclerosis requires MRI image of the brain, spinal tap and evoked potentials test to be diagnosed.

What is a evoked potentials test? Thanks for answering my questions ! How fast do you think i should get tested and if i wait to long what kind of damage can be done
to my body? I have recently heard that MS can go into remisson is that true and if i wait to long that it will not go into remisson? At my age is it even possiable to have MS? I guess i am a bit scared to really find out the truth! Thanks so much for your help you have helped so much more than you really think! christyw32

The brain of a person with MS often responds less actively to stimulation of the optic nerve and sensitive nerves. These brain responses can be examined using visual evoked potentials (VEPs) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs). Decreased activity on either test can reveal demyelination which may be otherwise asymptomatic.

As in most disorders therapy is more effective if started earlier.

Episodes of flares and remissions are typical for multiple sclerosis. Occurrence and duration of the flares and remissions are totally unpredictable. In some cases of MS episodes can't be distinguished very clearly. An all cases of MS the evolution of the disease is more or less progressive.

Multiple sclerosis is more common for young female adults.

Dr. I was recently hospitalized and had a serious of testing (MRI,CATscan, eeg) and I still waiting for my test results. I was released before getting the results from my test. My question is what does severe jolts while sleeping acutually mean?

Question
Hello Dr. Nikola I recently went and had an MRI done and it came back that I had multiple white matter lesions on my brain. Now I have to go in and have a spinal tap to see if I have MS. My Neuro told me not to worry because I have no signs of MS or any symptoms. I'm freaking out and have not been able to eat in a week because I'm so scared. He also told me that it could just be the way my brain is. Is there any truth to that?

Pinkey44, why did you perform brain MRI if you didn't have any symptoms?
