Q: could i have contracted hiv

I recently hired a sex worker that I invited to my house. All I asked from her was for her to give me a strip show. I did not touch her even once throughout the strip show. At one point she touched herself in her vagina. After she was done she went to the bathroom to wash her hands. I then drove her to where I had picked her up. I returned after about 30 minutes and washed my hands and face in the same sink that she had used to wash here hands. I then dried my face with a towel that she might have used. I felt a slight pain as I wiped my face (I had a pimple on my face). This sex worker had the flu and almost immediately (few hours) I developed a flu.

It's now almost 3 weeks later (19 days) since that day. The initial flu was mild (no fever but I did cough and have a blocked nose and phlegm) but the worst of it is over. I still have a mild blocked nose and phlegm in my throat. I live in Southern Africa. I test regularly and tested negative 2 months ago.

Although I didn't touch her at all, I'm thinking that I could have caught the flue from her while we were talking.

My questions are:

1) How likely is it that I contracted HIV
2) If I contracted the flu from her, could I have contracted HIV with the flu.

HIV dies 30 seconds to a minute after it leaves the body.

From the way you have expressed yourself, I don't see any risk for HIV.

Of course to clear your mind, you might need to go for yet another HIV test but I don't think it is necessary.

All the best and thanks for writing in.

Thanks
Hi Muthoni

Thanks for the response.

It's helped to calm me down somewhat. I'm still going to go for a PCR after the long weekend (Tuesday).

Thanks again

You are doing well.

Here is more information to help you further.

For HIV to occur, there has to be:-

1. A fluid HIGH in HIV. This can be blood, semen or vaginal fluids.

2. There has to be an activity. This may include unprotected sex and sharing dirty needles among others.

3. There has to be a WAY INTO the bloodstream. If there is no way in, there is no infection.

The skin does a good job of keeping things out and keeping things in.

I am still learning about the new tests. What is a PCR?

All the best.

Always
