Q: Could I be pregnant?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 3rd, 2009
ive just started the birth control pill levlan and have been using it for about 3 wks now so i am coming to the end of my first mth with it (i'll be using the white pills next wk)..instead of starting the pill on the 1st day of my period like they recommend, i started it about 2 days after i finished (after i talked to the chemist) and have been taking it everyday. i am not in a commited relationship so my sexual life is irregular however, i had unprotected sex and he came inside me (i know i should have used protection) in the early hrs of sunday morning and then later that morning i took the pill at roughly the same time i have been everyday but i vomited in the first hr of taking it due to alcohol/hangover..i have only just realised this and would like to know if there is a chance that preganacy could have occured..the following day i took my next pill as always- what is the chance or likelihood of a pregnancy occuring..please tell me..thanks

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

Normally Levlan is taken on the first Sunday following your period. If your period starts on a Sunday then you are to take the pill on that Sunday itself. Alternatively it is taken from the first day of the period. So the effect will not be complete if it is taken on any other day.

Normally an alternative contraception like condoms should be used for the first month as the contraception is not complete the first month.
Also since you vomited within an hour there is a chance you vomited the pill. Also you did not repeat the pill. So if the unprotected sex occurred around your ovulation time, there is a chance you can be pregnant.

You should now wait for the expected date of next period and if you miss the period take a pregnancy test. Please follow the instructions given for the birth control pills as advised in future. Hope this helps. Take care!
