Hi, I'm a healthy 26 year old male. Slightly overweight but work out regularly. I woke up with pain in my left big toe joint (at the base, on the bottom of my foot) the other day. It fluctuates from very painful to not so painful. There was definitely some swelling the first day, but since then I don't notice swelling or heat (though the pain persists). I have a family history of gout, and am assuming this is what it is. Before I go to a doctor, I was wondering how expensive the diagnosis and continued treatment would be? My insurance isn't the best, as I have no other medical issues...should I consider upping my coverage before being diagnosed?
