Today I saw x-rays of my right hip. It's very far gone and is bone on bone. The doctor said I could try the shot and would know if it works in about 2 weeks. My thought is if it's bone on bone then what can a shot possibly do to my satisfaction? Would you move past the shot and go right for surgery?

Go for it....
I can't see how cortisone can help you one bit...My husband was bone on bone too...He had his surgery a little over 6 months ago....

If you have any questions I will answer you anyway that I can....Either PM me or do it through the Forum.....It is a wonderful surgery and seeing him now you would never guess that he has two knee replacements and one hip....With his two shoulder surgeries, he is kind of a bionic man.... surgery ...But they keep bandaging him and I love him to death....

Good luck,
Caroline

Cortisone or surgery for hip
Thank you so much Caroline for that response. I'm only 49 and kind of crushed at the thought of a hip replacement. Others have told me that the shot would do nothing and now I realize surgery is the way to go.

You are a go in my book...
Our oldest son is 47....He had his first hip replacement a little more than a year ago....His second will come when he is ready...He, too, is bone on bone......Some things are heriditary....You just can't change what you can't change....

I need a knee replacement but I can't have it...My circulation in my legs is not good...The knee is again a heriditary problem...That and too much golfing and not being able to accept the hurt and quit....I consider anyone who is able to have these surgeries lucky....I would give anything to have it....but I can't....

Good luck in whatever decision that you make....My husband is truly awesome in every respect of life..... Wink....

Take care,
Caroline
