Q: Coronary heart disease , ventricular tachicardia , and MVP
asked by: DoctorQuestion on August 19th, 2008
I had some chest pains in 2003 when had normal angiogram , but noe I ahve discomfort behind brastbone whch radiates into my upper back and can last on and off all day, I get left arm pain and pain in lower jaws, somtimes I get very sweaty when I get pain in back and it feels like burning sensation. My concern is di I need another angiogram could I have a narrowing in arteries which is causing these pains, my dad dies of coroanary artery disease at 66 having had a heart attack whe he was 50 but he was heavy smoker and had high cholesterol. They do not know what is causing the ventricular tachycardia could it be related to narrowing of arteries. I did not have other symptoms mentiones above when I had last angiogram

Heart Disease and Heart Attack Answer A4579
Current medical status: Had normal coronary angiogram 2003, normal mri 2007, normal echo with slight mitral valve prolapse, abnormal ecg some similarities of long q t syndrome, normal electrophysiologhy test in june 2008, cholesterol below 5, stress ecg no signs of ischemia
Current medical treatment: had loop recorder implanted in June 2008, being monitored for venticular tachycardia, on nexium for haitus hernia

Your symptoms ( discomfort behind breastbone, left arm pain, pain in lower jaws, sometimes get very sweaty, pain in back, burning sensation...) could be due to a heart disorder but could also be due to a disorder outside the heart.

Such symptoms, including ventricular tachicardia, could be due to coronary heart disease (CHD) but there is no evidence that you have such a disorder. You also don't have any risk factor that can speed CHD development so it is hard for me to believe that another angiography will show something different than that in 2003.

A mitral valve prolapse (MVP) could also cause symptoms like yours but, in your case, MVP was slight.

You may want to consult a cardiologist for an expert opinion.
